This week has seen the start of our "Funky Fingers" sessions. Each morning we begin with "Wake up - Shake up" (and some lovely movers we have too!!), followed by our usual Registration and discussion time. We have now introduced a short Funky Fingers time where the children work in group on a variety of motor skills.....
And now for the science bit...... motor skills involve the development of movements both big and small - moving arms/legs, hands/fingers, whole body, co-ordination, etc. and we focussing on posture, balance, co-ordination, proprioception (the sense of the relative position of neighbouring parts of the body and strength of effort being employed in movement) as well as the arm and finger skills needed for early writing activities.
Each morning the children split into groups for 5-10 minutes to practice their skills through games such as squeezing pegs, using tweezers, large chalk circles, manipulating small items, balancing blocks and a finger workout with 'dough gym' ..... all done to the latest music!!
We hope to add some photo soon so you can see the children in action. It has proven to be a fantastic start to each morning and the children seem to be enjoying this routine, before they move off to their own play based learning and interests.
We'd love to hear if the children have 'reported' back any comments about their day.
... And nearly time to return for term 4!
We have Bag2school visiting soon, on 1st March, so this is a good time to clear out your cupboards and draw and get rid of all your unwanted clothing, soft toys, bags.....
2nd March is booked for Zoolab who will bring a selection of animals for the children to hold, snakes, cockroaches and rats! How exciting!!!!
3rd March is World Book Day and we shall be holding events throughout the whole week!
We are planning another trip soon...... We hope over the course of the year to ensure that all the children have to opportunity to join us on a trip, but we obviously need to ensure that staff:child ratios are high enough to keep everyone safe, and our child numbers are continually increasing!!
We are also going to introduce an 'Interests Board' to record topics or themes which each child is returning to so that we can plan activities and learning based on the things that are already interesting them! If there is something you'd like us to know about your child's patterns of play please speak to a member of staff..... Are they really 'into' dinosaurs? Dancing? Lego? Drawing? Washing machines? Cats? Digging? Boxes? Anything blue? Whatever it is, we'd like to know!
It has clearly been a difficult week for the staff but we are pleased that the children are fairly accepting of events and are carrying on as usual. Thank you to those parents who have sent wishes to Louisa, we will pass on all your messages. Some parents have suggested a collection would be nice to send something to show your love and concern and so a 'pot' will be made available from tomorrow if you would like to make a donation. We are also preparing a card with children's pictures and comments if you would like to add a message..... It is these messages of support which help to keep spirits high 😊
The final week of term will be a busy one, as we explore pancake day, Chinese New Year and more baby talk! Nicky will be working in the Tiger's classroom next week as part of her Teacher Training placement requirements and we look forward to hearing all about her experience.
We've made some exciting arrangements for next term, so watch out for our next lot of news!
Today our baby clinic opened it's doors, and within 5 minute there was a huge queue! We had lots of emerging writing as the mums and dads booked in, names and ages. Once inside the clinic the babies were weighed and measured and the health visitor checked that all was ok. It seems that some homes are a little accident prone as before long the babies were coming in with bashed legs and bumped heads! Maybe a hospital is just too attractive🤕. Elsewhere there was sponge painting, trains (of course) and the light box.... Outdoor play in the wind as well as lots of dancing today! Even the babies had a boogie 🍼🎹🎤. Great fun!!
