Welcome to the year of the horse! Chinese New Year began on 31st January and we will be following the traditions and stories that surround these celebrations.
Today the children began to ‘spring clean’ the home corner, sorting out the clothes, food and bits and pieces, ready for our New Year Celebrations to begin.
In China this is done by the family to get rid of the old and welcome in the New Year.
One traditional tale is that on New Year’s Eve, the family are visited by the Kitchen God, Zao Zun, who visits heaven and reports the family’s activities over the year. The
family will then be rewarded or punished depending on how good they have
been! It is therefore a good idea to have a clean kitchen!!
We have lots of activities planned our these celebrations, and hope that the children share them with you at home!!
