At Marcham Pre-school we use a system called 'Tapestry' to record children's activities and progress. This is a secure system which parents and other carers can access from home via an ios or android app or directly via their website.
Staff make frequent observations of children, linking their learning and development to appropriate statements within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.
These are shown in Tapestry, often with photographs or videos and are then made available for parents (and other authorised adults - grandparents, relatives, carers) to view from home.
The EYFS statements help us build a picture of each child's current stage of development which we use, together with our own assessments, to determine what a child's 'next steps' will be thereby ensuring that all children are encouraged to the best of their ability.
Each written statement is linked to a suggested age range from 0-60months. Sometimes staff find that the appropriate statement is linked to an age range below that of a child's actual age. This is not an indication that a child is generally below their expected level of development, but it always worth noting each step of achievement along the road of progress. It also allows staff to determine what next steps might be to ensure continuing challenge and interest.
There will be frequent opportunities to discuss your child's progress with staff, and we will speak to parents should we feel that there are any issues surrounding a child's general development or progress.
On occasion, statements will also be quotes as "emerging", "developing" or "secure", these are the intended 'mini-steps' as children progress through the stages and onto the next one.
Tapestry has proven to be a delightful link between pre-school and home and we always like to read your comments, or your own observations which can be raised from home.
