Unfortunately, we have several children off ill with temperatures and colds..... so it was a very small group today! This morning 5 children went for a Weekly Walkabout while the others stayed behind and enjoyed a story with Jill Rowe (Children's and Youth Minister).
The Walkabouters enjoyed a stroll to the village shop, exploring plants and flowers on the way. Once at the shop we purchased some bread for snack and then stopped off briefly at the park before returning to pre-school for fruit and toast!!
After snack several children went outside while others continued with the very popular new blocks and animals.
These really are such fantastic resources that enable the children to learn, improve, challenge, share, think, investigate and enjoy all areas of the curriculum.
We made a fairy castle, London, a bridge, a rocket, a spaceship, matched up blocks into pairs and zig-zagged them across the carpet!!
After lunch, only 7 children remained but everyone spent a busy afternoon exploring 6 different areas! One was doing puzzles, two were having a quiet moment in the cupboard (designed for this purpose I might add!!- without a door and a nice fit for a small child!), one was exploring the stickle bricks, one was in the sandpit, and one was having a cuddle with Marion. The overall atmosphere was one of total calm, enjoyment and fun! Now the enjoyment and fun is an everyday occurence - I'm not so sure about the 'calm' though!!
