We started by watching a DVD of the story my Michael Rosen, the children really enjoyed this, and asked to watch it again.... and again.... and again!!
We talked about having our own bear hunt and some of the children drew there own maps, asking us to mark out all the areas from the story!
We discussed all the things we would need to take and decided on....
- water bottles
- the book "we're going on a bear hunt"
- a blanket
- a scarf
- a towel in case we get get in the river!
- welly boots
- torches (the cave might be very dark)
- telescopes and binoculars
- a camera
- and a bag to carry it all in!
The children scurried around collecting all the things on our list, packed the bag with a blanket and breadsticks, then decided who was going to carry what - lovely decision making.
After donning our raincoats and welly boots, we all set off singing....
"We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one, what a beautiful day, we're not scared....."
As we walked around the playing field we found swishy, swashy grass, a deep, cold river, thick oozy mud, a big, dark forest, a swirling, whirling snowstorm and a narrow, gloomy cave..... inside the cave was a snuggly, cuddly bear unlike the story, we didn't run all the way home, we all had a cuddle and then settled down for breadsticks and a drink.
We had a fantastic time, the children really connected with the story and everyone had good fun - plus we were joined by Nicky's daughter Megan who ended the morning by reading the story book!!
A photo story is up on the wall at Pre-school together with the children's maps - and a 'taster' is shown online here . If your child has told you about there day at pre-school today, we would li
